>> Information on various types of machinery and equipment including calf feeders and seed drills in New Zealand (NZ)

The concept of fertiliser spreading from aeroplanes was born in New Zealand and the same innovative flair still prevails as engineers perfect efficient machinery designs to complement the New Zealand system. There are a number of ground spreaders  for seeds and fertiliser that bear little resemblance  to traditional machines..

Economy of mechanisation is evident in devices that simply attach to tractors or are towed accessories behind 4-wheeled motorbikes . Similar thinking has gone into methods of chemical spraying.

On the hay and silage front, many machines have been developed for harvesting. But perhaps the greatest innovations are in automating the bulk feeding of hay and silage – for example, big round bale handlers that simply unravel their nutritious load onto suitable ground as they travel along.

New Zealand university engineers and commercial engineers have partnered to develop the world-famous system of seed placement directly into untilled soil. Direct drilling achieves its goal very directly, with a minimum of effort. In line with many of the developments that have grown out of the New Zealand pasture-based farming system, it is a triumph over costly mechanical, labour and fuel bills that have traditionally been associated with pasture renewal and crop establishment.
